Cough and Cold

Common cold is an infectious disease and is a viral which effects on our nose and upper respiratory cavity.

It primarily effects on our throat, and the sinuses cavity within bone or other tissues, especially one in the bones of the skull connecting with the nasal cavities.

The common cold is a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract. The most commonly implicated virus is a rhinovirus (30–80%), a type of picornavirus with 99 known serotypes.Other commonly implicated viruses include human coronavirus (15%), influenza viruses
(10--15%), adenoviruses (5%), human respiratory syncytial virusenteroviruses other than rhinoviruses, and metapneumo virus Frequently more than one virus is present. In total over 200 different viral types are associated with colds.

cough  is a sudden and often repetitively occurring reflex which helps to clear the large breathing passages from secretions, irritants, foreign particles and microbes.
As it is a natural protective reflex, suppressing the cough reflex might have damaging effects, especially if the cough is productive.

Cough and cold medicine is also known as cough syrup, when in syrup form, is a medicinal drug used in those with coughing and related conditions. There is no good evidence for or against the use of over-the-counter cough medications in those with a cough. While they are used by 10% of American children weekly, they are not recommended in Canada and the United States in children 6 years or younger because of lack of evidence showing effect and concerns of harm.

About 75%-80% of the population of Nepal use Ayurveda, and it is the most practiced form of medicine in the country. The Sri Lankan tradition of Ayurveda is similar to the Indian tradition. Practitioners of Ayurveda in Sri Lanka refer to Sanskrit texts which are common to both countries. However, they do differ in some aspects, particularly in the herbs used.
